Join me for an adventure, through the history of Meta, previously known as Facebook and its visionary pursuit of the meta universe.

Picture this — a Harvard dorm room Mark Zuckerberg and a small group of friends launching “The Facebook.” Initially designed for college students to connect it quickly outgrew its campus origins. By 2005 it transformed into the Facebook we are familiar with today.
Facebook revolutionised how people connect by enabling them to share photos and stay in touch with friends. That iconic blue banner at the top of the page became symbolic of the social media revolution.
2 - Dominance in Social Media (2007–2016)
As time went by Facebook expanded its influence. Acquired platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp solidifying its position, as a social media powerhouse. Their mission? To “create a connected world,” which they achieved by connecting billions of people worldwide.

Facebook’s influence grew thanks to its emphasis, on mobile photography and attracting younger users.

The ultimate aim is to construct experiences that connect people from all corners of the world whether it be for gaming, work or socialising. Meta envisions a future where the metaverse takes the stage.

They actively encourage developers, creators and businesses to join forces and collaboratively shape this vision. The goal is to grant users autonomy and freedom in their journeys.

Meta has made investments, in augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) technologies. Their products, such as the Oculus Quest and Horizon Workrooms offer a sneak peek into the potential of the metaverse. Following the successful launches of the Oculus Quest 2, Meta released the all-new Oculus Quest 3 which features mixed reality. Mixed reality is essentially when digital objects can interact with the real world.

As Meta embarks on its journey towards building the metaverse it is crucial to address concerns that arise along the way. Privacy emerges as an issue in this context. Considering that individuals may spend portions of their lives immersed in this realm protecting personal data and ensuring user consent becomes paramount. Moreover, there is also a consideration regarding addiction.
